Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the local labour force in Balonne Shire in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (848 people or 36.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (202 people or 8.8%)
  • Retail Trade (198 people or 8.6%)

In combination these three industries employed 1,248 people in total or 54.4% of the total local labour force.

In comparison, Queensland employed 2.7% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 11.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the local labour force of the Balonne Shire and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (36.9% compared to 2.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of local labour force employed in Manufacturing (1.4% compared to 8.4%)
