Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the local labour force in Cradle Coast Region in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Manufacturing (5,612 people or 12.3%)
  • Retail Trade (5,270 people or 11.5%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (4,965 people or 10.8%)

In combination these three industries employed 15,847 people in total or 34.6% of the total local labour force.

In comparison, Tasmania employed 8.7% in Manufacturing; 11.3% in Retail Trade; and 12.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the local labour force of the Cradle Coast Region and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Manufacturing (12.3% compared to 8.7%)
  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Mining (4.0% compared to 1.3%)
  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (7.2% compared to 4.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of local labour force employed in Public Administration and Safety (5.9% compared to 9.0%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the local labour force between 2006 and 2011 in the Cradle Coast Region were for those employed in:

  • Mining (+766 local labour force)
  • Manufacturing (-664 local labour force)
  • Construction (+647 local labour force)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+607 local labour force)
