Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Cradle Coast Region in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (1,331 people or 21.3%)
  • Manufacturing (594 people or 9.5%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (523 people or 8.4%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,447 million in total or 39.2% of the total local sales by total industry in the Cradle Coast Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Hobart accounted for 22.2% in Construction; 6.3% in Manufacturing; and 1.3% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the Cradle Coast Region and Greater Hobart were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (8.4% compared to 1.3%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Mining (3.8% compared to 0.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Information Media and Telecommunications (2.1% compared to 5.9%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the Cradle Coast Region were for:

  • Construction (+$164 million)
  • Manufacturing (-$131 million)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$71 million)
