Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Macarthur Region in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($1,774 million or 42.8%)
  • Mining ($925 million or 22.3%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($401 million or 9.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,101 million in total or 74.8% of the total exports by total industry in the Macarthur Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Sydney accounted for 12.1% in Manufacturing; 0.5% in Mining; and 8.6% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between total exports by industries in the Macarthur Region and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (42.8% compared to 12.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (22.3% compared to 0.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (0.2% compared to 19.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Information Media and Telecommunications (0.2% compared to 8.7%)

The largest changes in total exports by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the Macarthur Region were for:

  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$89 million)
  • Wholesale Trade (+$85 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$79 million)
