Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Macarthur Region in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($3,068 million or 25.8%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($1,444 million or 12.1%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($1,101 million or 9.3%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $5,612 million in total or 47.2% of the total imports by total industry in the Macarthur Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Sydney accounted for 28.2% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 9.3% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries in the Macarthur Region and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (12.1% compared to 8.2%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (6.5% compared to 4.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (4.4% compared to 7.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (25.8% compared to 28.2%)

Emerging groups

The total imports by industries in the Macarthur Region increased by $2,392.1 million between 2010/11 and 2015/16.

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the Macarthur Region were for:

  • Manufacturing (+$576 million)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$535 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$349 million)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+$205 million)
