Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Macarthur Region in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (4,689 people or 27.4%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (1,905 people or 11.1%)
  • Manufacturing (1,516 people or 8.9%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $8,110 million in total or 47.4% of the total local sales by total industry in the Macarthur Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Sydney accounted for 16.5% in Construction; 14.8% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services; and 6.2% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the Macarthur Region and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (27.4% compared to 16.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (2.8% compared to 9.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (3.0% compared to 9.0%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the Macarthur Region were for:

  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$576 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$260 million)
  • Wholesale Trade (+$251 million)
