Murweh Shire is located in south-west Queensland. The Shire encompasses a total land area of nearly 41,000 square kilometres. Murweh Shire is a predominantly rural area, with a small township at Charleville and smaller townships at Augathella and Morven. Rural land is used largely for agriculture.

Key employment sectors in Murweh Shire include agriculture forestry and fishing, health care, retail trade and education. Agricultural industries are focussed on sheep and cattle grazing, with some grain growing. The main health care facilities in the Shire are Charleville Hospital, Charleville Royal Flying Doctor Service, Augathella Multi-Purpose Health Service and Morven Community Clinic. The main commercial centre is the Charleville township. Educational facilities are provided at a number of schools.
