Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area
The Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area is located in south-eastern New South Wales. The Council area encompasses a total land area of about 5,300 square kilometres. The Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area is predominantly rural, with growing residential and rural-residential areas, particularly in the west, closest to Canberra. The major towns are Queanbeyan and Bungendore, with smaller townships at Braidwood and Captains Flat, and several villages. Rural land is used mainly for sheep and cattle grazing, orchards, nurseries, crop growing, honey production and vineyards.
Key employment sectors in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council area include retail trade, manufacturing, construction, public administration and safety, health care and education. The major retail area is the Queanbeyan CBD (including Riverside Place shopping centre), with smaller retail areas at Jerrabomberra Village and Karabar Shopping Mall. The main industrial areas are located in the suburbs of Crestwood, Queanbeyan East and Queanbeyan West. The Council area is home to Queanbeyan District Hospital, Braidwood Multi Purpose Service and numerous aged care facilities. Educational facilities are provided at TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute (Queanbeyan Campus) and numerous primary and secondary schools.
