Randwick City is located in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney. The City encompasses a total land area of about 37 square kilometres. Randwick City is a predominantly residential area, with some commercial, industrial and military areas.
The key employment sectors in Randwick City are health care and education, with other important employment sectors being accommodation and food services, tourism, retail trade, and public administration and safety. Randwick City is home to one large public hospital (The Prince of Wales Hospital) and two smaller private hospitals (Prince of Wales Private Hospital and Eastern Suburbs Private Hospital). Educational facilities are provided at the University of New South Wales (Cliffbrook, Kensington and Randwick Campuses), TAFE NSW Sydney (Randwick College), National Institute of Dramatic Art and numerous schools. Tourism is an important industry, with various natural attractions (national parks, reserves, beaches and baths) and built attractions (sporting facilities and golf clubs). The main retail centres are Pacific Square Shopping Centre, Randwick Plaza and Royal Randwick Shopping Centre, with smaller centres at South Maroubra Shopping Village and The Spot Shopping Centre in Randwick. Randwick City’s main employers in public administration and safety are the Long Bay Correctional Complex and Randwick Barracks.
