City of Rockingham

Infrastructure

The City of Rockingham is located in the outer southern suburbs of Perth. The City of Rockingham encompasses a total land area of about 260 square kilometres, and features significant areas of coastline and parkland. The City is a rapidly developing residential area, with substantial industrial and commercial areas, and a naval area on Garden Island.

Key employment sectors include retail, defence, health, education, and to a lesser extent, manufacturing. Major retail centres include Rockingham City, Stockland Baldivis and Warnbro Fair, with several other significant centres (Secret Harbour, Stargate and Waikiki Village). HMAS Stirling (Fleet Base West) is located on Garden Island, being Australia's largest naval fleet and submarine base. Rockingham features one major public hospital (Rockingham General), two tertiary institutions (Challenger TAFE and Murdoch University) and numerous private and public schools. The main industrial areas are located in East Rockingham and the eastern section of Rockingham.
