Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in SHOROC Region in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Wholesale Trade ($1,733 million or 29.2%)
  • Manufacturing ($1,098 million or 18.5%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($726 million or 12.2%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,557 million in total or 60.0% of the total exports by total industry in the SHOROC Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 5.9% in Wholesale Trade; 13.2% in Manufacturing; and 7.4% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between total exports by industries in the SHOROC Region and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Wholesale Trade (29.2% compared to 5.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (1.4% compared to 15.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (0.0% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (1.1% compared to 7.9%)

The total exports by industries in the SHOROC Region decreased by $213.2 million between 2010/11 and 2015/16.

The largest changes in total exports by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the SHOROC Region were for:

  • Manufacturing (-$407 million)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$242 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (-$208 million)
  • Wholesale Trade (+$200 million)
