Professional, Scientific and Technical Services employs more of the SHOROC Region’s local labour force than any other industry sector.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the local labour force in SHOROC Region in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (18,734 people or 13.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (13,481 people or 10.0%)
  • Retail Trade (12,607 people or 9.3%)

In combination these three industries employed 44,822 people in total or 33.2% of the total local labour force.

In comparison, New South Wales employed 7.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 11.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the local labour force of the SHOROC Region and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (13.9% compared to 7.9%)
  • A larger percentage of local labour force employed in Financial and Insurance Services (7.8% compared to 5.0%)
