Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Yass Valley in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($241 million or 25.8%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($108 million or 11.5%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($83 million or 8.9%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $432 million in total or 46.2% of the total imports by total industry in the Yass Valley.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Australian Capital Territory accounted for 20.6% in Manufacturing; 5.7% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 2.4% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries in the Yass Valley and Australian Capital Territory were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (8.9% compared to 2.4%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Retail Trade (7.7% compared to 1.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (5.7% compared to 24.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Education and Training (3.4% compared to 10.7%)

The total imports by industries in the Yass Valley increased by $199.2 million between 2010/11 and 2015/16.

There were no major changes in total imports by industries between 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the Yass Valley.
