An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the City of Adelaide in 2019/20 shows the three largest industries were:
- Financial and Insurance Services (4,636 million or 20.6%)
- Public Administration and Safety (3,474 million or 15.4%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (3,064 million or 13.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 11,174 million in total or 49.6% of the total exports by industry in the the City of Adelaide.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 7.8% in Financial and Insurance Services; 7.1% in Public Administration and Safety and 9.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of the City of Adelaide and South Australia were:
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (0.4% compared to 19.5%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (20.6% compared to 7.8%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (0.0% compared to 9.7%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (15.4% compared to 7.1%)

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2012/13 and 2019/20 in the City of Adelaide were for:
