An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the City of Adelaide in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($2,422 million or 40.8%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($719 million or 12.1%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($454 million or 7.7%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $3,595 million in total or 60.6% of the total imports by industry in the the City of Adelaide.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 30.0% in Manufacturing; 6.4% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing and 6.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the City of Adelaide and South Australia were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (40.8% compared to 30.0%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (0.9% compared to 8.0%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (1.4% compared to 7.7%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (12.1% compared to 6.4%)
The total total imports by industry in the City of Adelaide increased by $336 million between 2012/13 and 2019/20.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2012/13 and 2019/20 in the City of Adelaide were for:
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$197 million)
- Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (+$145 million)
- Wholesale Trade (+$77 million)
- Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$38 million)
