Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in City of Adelaide in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($2,744 million or 45.3%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($668 million or 11.0%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($579 million or 9.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $3,992 million in total or 65.9% of the total imports by total industry in the City of Adelaide.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Adelaide accounted for 33.6% in Manufacturing; 7.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 6.3% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.
The major differences between total imports by industries in the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (45.3% compared to 33.6%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (0.9% compared to 8.2%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (0.5% compared to 5.4%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (5.6% compared to 10.4%)
