Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in the City of Boroondara. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.

An analysis of the output by industry sectors in the City of Boroondara in 2019/20 shows the three largest industries were:
- Construction ($3,810 million or 16.1%)
- Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($3,686 million or 15.6%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($3,284 million or 13.9%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $10,781 million in total or 45.6% of the total output by total industry in the the City of Boroondara.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Victoria accounted for 15.1% in Construction; 7.3% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services and 8.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
