Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the City of Brisbane in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (104,005 people or 15.7%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (76,118 people or 11.5%)
  • Education and Training (64,836 people or 9.8%)

In combination these three industries employed 244,959 people in total or 37.0% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Queensland employed 15.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 6.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services and 8.8% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the City of Brisbane and Queensland were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (11.5% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Construction (6.7% compared to 9.1%)
