Broken Hill City
Broken Hill is the largest regional centre in the western half of New South Wales. Broken Hill City encompasses a total land area of about 180 square kilometres and includes a township and surrounding rural areas. Mining and tourism are important industries, with some sheep farming.
Key employment sectors include retail, health, mining, education and tourism. The Broken Hill CBD is the major retail centre, with a smaller centre at Centro Westside. Broken Hill has a public hospital (Broken Hill Hospital), as well as being the base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Mining is undertaken at the CBH RASP Mine and Perilya Broken Hill Mine, with mineral processing performed at the Bemax Mineral Separation Plant. Broken Hill features one tertiary institution (TAFE NSW Western Institute - Broken Hill College) and the School of the Air. Tourism is supported by numerous galleries, museums and accommodation places.
