In Cairns, there are more younger male workers (15 to 44 years) than older male workers (45 year and over) in the male resident workers .

Analysis of the male resident workers age structure of Cairns in 2016 compared to Retail Trade shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (15 to 44 years) as well as a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (45 years and over).
Overall, 56.3% of the male resident workers was aged under 45 years, compared to 66.2% for Retail Trade. 43.7% were aged 45 years and over, compared to 33.8% for Retail Trade.
The major differences between the male resident workers age structure of Cairns and Retail Trade were:
