In Cairns, there are more younger female workers (15 to 44 years) than older female workers (45 year and over) in the female resident workers .

Analysis of the female resident workers age structure of Cairns in 2016 compared to Queensland shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (15 to 44 years) as well as a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (45 years and over).
Overall, 58.1% of the female resident workers was aged under 45 years, compared to 59.7% for Queensland. 41.9% were aged 45 years and over, compared to 40.3% for Queensland.
The major differences between the female resident workers age structure of Cairns and Queensland were:
