Dominant groups
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Cairns in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (2,454 million or 37.2%)
- Public Administration and Safety (528 million or 8.0%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (456 million or 6.9%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 3,437 million in total or 52.1% of the total exports by industry in the Cairns.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 9.6% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing; 5.3% in Public Administration and Safety and 4.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of Cairns and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (37.2% compared to 9.6%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (4.3% compared to 31.5%)
