An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Cairns in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($2,662 million or 40.5%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($810 million or 12.3%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($526 million or 8.0%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $3,998 million in total or 60.8% of the total imports by industry in the Cairns.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 34.6% in Manufacturing; 9.6% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.2% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
