Dominant groups

An analysis of the international imports by industry sectors in Cairns in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($1,878 million or 82.9%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($69 million or 3.0%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($68 million or 3.0%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,014 million in total or 88.9% of the total international imports by total industry in Cairns.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 81.0% in Manufacturing; 3.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 3.1% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major difference between international imports by industries in Cairns and Queensland was:
