Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in Cairns in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (10,446 people or 14.4%)
- Retail Trade (7,685 people or 10.6%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (7,268 people or 10.0%)
In combination these three industries employed 25,399 people in total or 35.1% of the total resident workforce.
In comparison, FNQROC employed 13.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.1% in Retail Trade; and 9.6% in Accommodation and Food Services.
The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of Cairns and FNQROC were:
