An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Cairns in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:
- Construction (1,979 people or 16.0%)
- Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (1,962 people or 15.9%)
- Public Administration and Safety (867 people or 7.0%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $4,808 million in total or 38.9% of the total local sales by total industry in Cairns.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Far North Queensland accounted for 17.4% in Construction; 13.5% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services; and 6.8% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between local sales by industries in Cairns and Far North Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (15.9% compared to 13.5%)
