In the South East Queensland, Manufacturing had the largest total exports by industry, generating $31,336 million in 2022/23.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the South East Queensland boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the South East Queensland in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing (31,336 million or 20.3%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (20,259 million or 13.1%)
  • Mining (12,458 million or 8.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 64,052 million in total or 41.5% of the total exports by industry in the the South East Queensland.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Brisbane accounted for 20.4% in Manufacturing; 14.9% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing and 6.2% in Mining.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the South East Queensland and Greater Brisbane were:

  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (13.1% compared to 14.9%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (8.1% compared to 6.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (7.5% compared to 9.3%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (3.5% compared to 2.0%)

Emerging groups

The total total exports by industry in the South East Queensland $increased by 45,172 million between 2008/09 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the South East Queensland were for:

  • Mining (+$7,725 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$5,743 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$4,874 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$4,719 million)
