Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the South East Queensland in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($64,755 million or 36.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($12,014 million or 6.8%)
- Public Administration and Safety ($11,969 million or 6.8%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $88,738 million in total or 50.3% of the total imports by industry in the the South East Queensland.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Brisbane accounted for 37.5% in Manufacturing; 6.2% in Financial and Insurance Services and 5.7% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the South East Queensland and Greater Brisbane were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (6.8% compared to 5.7%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (36.7% compared to 37.5%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (6.8% compared to 6.2%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Wholesale Trade (2.7% compared to 2.2%)

The total total imports by industry in the South East Queensland increased by $50,984 million between 2008/09 and 2022/23.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the South East Queensland were for:
- Manufacturing (+$22,526 million)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$5,846 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$5,262 million)
- Public Administration and Safety (+$4,358 million)
