Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the South East Queensland in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($84,487million or 20.3%)
  • Manufacturing ($33,921million or 8.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($33,430million or 8.0%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $151,837 million in total or 36.5% of the total local sales by total industry in the the South East Queensland.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Brisbane accounted for 18.6% in Construction; 8.2% in Manufacturing and 8.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the South East Queensland and Greater Brisbane were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (20.3% compared to 18.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (7.5% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (8.0% compared to 8.8%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (7.5% compared to 7.0%)

The total local sales by industry in the South East Queensland $increased by 96,431 million between 2008/09 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the South East Queensland were for:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$16,453 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$13,001 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$11,513 million)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$9,831 million)
