Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Cradle Coast Region in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($1,068 million or 27.9%)
  • Mining ($802 million or 21.0%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($488 million or 12.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,358 million in total or 61.7% of the total exports by total industry in the Cradle Coast Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 19.8% in Manufacturing; 6.2% in Mining; and 10.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between total exports by industries in the Cradle Coast Region and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (21.0% compared to 6.2%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (27.9% compared to 19.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (1.6% compared to 7.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (0.9% compared to 6.3%)

Emerging groups

The total exports by industries in the Cradle Coast Region decreased by $499.3 million between 2011/12 and 2016/17.

The largest changes in total exports by industries between 2011/12 and 2016/17 in the Cradle Coast Region were for:

  • Manufacturing (-$426 million)
  • Mining (-$138 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$75 million)
