In the Cradle Coast Region, Manufacturing had the largest total exports by industry, generating $1,143 million in 2016/17.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the Cradle Coast Region boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Cradle Coast Region in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($1,143 million or 26.6%)
  • Mining ($1,078 million or 25.1%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing ($552 million or 12.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,772 million in total or 64.6% of the total exports by total industry in the Cradle Coast Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Hobart accounted for 13.5% in Manufacturing; 1.4% in Mining; and 3.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between total exports by industries in the Cradle Coast Region and Greater Hobart were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (25.1% compared to 1.4%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (26.6% compared to 13.5%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (12.8% compared to 3.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (1.5% compared to 13.2%)

Emerging groups

The total exports by industries in the Cradle Coast Region decreased by $371.5 million between 2011/12 and 2016/17.

The largest changes in total exports by industries between 2011/12 and 2016/17 in the Cradle Coast Region were for:

  • Manufacturing (-$638 million)
  • Mining (+$227 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$80 million)
