Dominant groups
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the Coastal Urban Economic Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing (848 million or 25.0%)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (541 million or 15.9%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (454 million or 13.3%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 1,842 million in total or 54.2% of the total exports by industry in the the Coastal Urban Economic Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 19.3% in Manufacturing; 15.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and 5.6% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of the Coastal Urban Economic Region and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (13.3% compared to 5.6%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Mining (12.2% compared to 5.9%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (25.0% compared to 19.3%)
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (1.3% compared to 5.6%)

The total total exports by industry in the Coastal Urban Economic Region $increased by 106 million between 2013/14 and 2018/19.
The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the Coastal Urban Economic Region were for:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$236 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$92 million)
- Information Media and Telecommunications (+$53 million)
- Other Services (+$33 million)
