Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Cradle Coast Region in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (1,226 people or 18.3%)
  • Mining (673 people or 10.0%)
  • Manufacturing (610 people or 9.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,509 million in total or 37.4% of the total local sales by total industry in the Cradle Coast Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 19.5% in Construction; 3.1% in Mining; and 7.4% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the Cradle Coast Region and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Mining (10.0% compared to 3.1%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (9.1% compared to 5.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2.6% compared to 5.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (4.2% compared to 6.6%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2011/12 and 2016/17 in the Cradle Coast Region were for:

  • Construction (+$184 million)
  • Manufacturing (-$176 million)
  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (-$100 million)
