Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Cradle Coast Region in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (1,342 people or 22.5%)
  • Manufacturing (543 people or 9.1%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (504 people or 8.5%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $2,389 million in total or 40.1% of the total local sales by total industry in the Cradle Coast Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 18.9% in Construction; 7.5% in Manufacturing; and 4.8% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the Cradle Coast Region and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (8.5% compared to 4.8%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (22.5% compared to 18.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (3.0% compared to 5.5%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2012/13 and 2017/18 in the Cradle Coast Region were for:

  • Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services (-$114 million)
  • Construction (+$104 million)
  • Manufacturing (-$81 million)
  • Mining (-$72 million)
