Dominant groups
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the Canberra Region in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2,595 million or 19.8%)
- Manufacturing (2,441 million or 18.7%)
- Public Administration and Safety (1,376 million or 10.5%)
In combination these three industries accounted for 6,412 million in total or 49.0% of the total exports by industry in the the Canberra Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional NSW accounted for 13.5% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 16.2% in Manufacturing and 3.8% in Public Administration and Safety.
The major differences between the total exports by industries of the Canberra Region and Regional NSW were:
- A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (4.9% compared to 30.9%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Public Administration and Safety (10.5% compared to 3.8%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (19.8% compared to 13.5%)
- A larger percentage of total exports by Accommodation and Food Services (9.0% compared to 4.5%)

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2008/09 and 2022/23 in the Canberra Region were for:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$834 million)
- Accommodation and Food Services (+$529 million)
- Public Administration and Safety (+$422 million)
- Manufacturing (+$420 million)
