Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Canberra Region in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($6,333million or 27.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($1,895million or 8.1%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($1,619million or 6.9%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $9,847 million in total or 42.2% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Canberra Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Regional NSW accounted for 22.5% in Construction; 8.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.6% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Canberra Region and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (27.1% compared to 22.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Mining (0.7% compared to 5.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (5.1% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (2.2% compared to 3.3%)
