Within the City of Darebin, there is a higher proportion of resident All industries workers using public transport to get to work than the Construction workforce.

In 2016, there were 16,763 resident workers who caught public transport to work (train, bus, tram or ferry) in the City of Darebin, compared with 37,946 who drove in private vehicles (car – as driver, car – as passenger, motorbike, or truck).
Analysis of the method of travel to work of the resident workers in the City of Darebin shows that 23.8% used public transport, while 54.0% used a private vehicle, compared with 8.2% and 80.9% respectively in Construction within the City of Darebin.
The major differences between the method of travel to work of the resident workers in the City of Darebin and the Construction workforce were:
- A smaller percentage of resident workers who travelled by car, as driver (49.8% compared to 73.9%)
- A larger percentage of resident workers who travelled by train (16.6% compared to 6.5%)
- A larger percentage of resident workers who did not go to work (9.1% compared to 3.7%)
- A larger percentage of resident workers who travelled by tram (5.0% compared to 1.1%)
