The City of South Perth is located in the inner southern suburbs of Perth. The City encompasses a total land area of about 20 square kilometres. The City of South Perth is a predominantly residential area, with commercial land use mainly along the Canning Highway, and substantial parkland areas.
Key employment sectors in the City of South Perth include health care, professional scientific and technical services, education, public administration and safety, accommodation and food services, tourism industry occupations and retail trade. The main health care facility is South Perth Hospital, with various aged care facilities. Educational facilities are provided at Aquinas College, Penrhos College, Wesley College, Clontarf Aboriginal College and numerous other schools. Tourism is an important industry, due to the close proximity to Perth, and various natural and built attractions, such as the Swan River, Como Beach, Perth Zoo, Milyu Nature Reserve, and several parks and golf clubs. The main retail areas in the City of South Perth are Meadowvale Shopping Centre, South Shore Shopping Centre, Waterford Plaza Shopping Centre and along the Canning Highway.
