Analysis of the resident workers individual income levels in the Gunnedah Shire in 2016 compared to Health Care and Social Assistance shows that there was a higher proportion earning a high income (those earning $1,750 per week or more) and a lower proportion of low income persons (those earning less than $500 per week).
Overall, 18.0% of the resident workers earned a high income, and 20.4% earned a low income, compared with 8.2% and 21.0% respectively for Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between the weekly income of the resident workers in the Gunnedah Shire and Health Care and Social Assistance were:

- A larger percentage of resident workers earned $1,750 - $1,999 (5.4% compared to 2.2%)
