Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in Gunnedah Shire in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Mining (739 people or 13.7%)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (737 people or 13.7%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (549 people or 10.2%)
In combination these three industries employed 2,025 people in total or 37.7% of the total resident workforce.
In comparison, New South Wales employed 0.9% in Mining; 2.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; and 12.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
