Hilltops Council area
The Hilltops Council area is located in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. The Council area encompasses a total land area of over 7,100 square kilometres. The Hilltops Council area is predominantly rural, with several townships which include residential, commercial and industrial areas. Settlement is based mainly in the small townships of Boorowa, Harden - Murrumburrah and Young, and the villages of Bendick Murrell, Bribbaree, Frogmore, Galong, Jugiong, Koorawatha, Monteagle, Murringo, Reids Flat, Rugby, Rye Park and Wombat.
The key employment sector in the Hilltops Council area is agriculture, forestry and fishing, with other significant employment sectors being retail trade, health care, manufacturing and education. The main agricultural industries are sheep and cattle grazing, with wheat growing, orcharding and viticulture also being important industries. The main retail areas are the Boorowa CBD and the Young CBD. The main health care facilities in the Council area are the Boorowa District Hospital, Murrumburrah-Harden Hospital, Young District Hospital, Mercy Care Centre Young and numerous aged care facilities. Small industrial areas are located in the townships of Boorowa, Harden and Young. Educational facilities are provided at TAFE NSW Riverina Institute (Young Campus) and numerous primary and secondary schools.
