An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in City of Launceston in 2017/18 shows the three largest industries were:

- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($224 million or 10.9%)
- Mining ($106 million or 5.2%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1,270 million in total or 61.7% of the total imports by total industry in the City of Launceston.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Hobart accounted for 33.7% in Manufacturing; 7.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 5.9% in Mining.
