Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in Macarthur Region in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (15,050 people or 11.3%)
  • Construction (14,274 people or 10.7%)
  • Retail Trade (13,952 people or 10.5%)

In combination these three industries employed 43,276 people in total or 32.6% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 11.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.2% in Construction; and 9.3% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the Macarthur Region and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Manufacturing (8.7% compared to 5.8%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Construction (10.7% compared to 8.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (4.8% compared to 9.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Financial and Insurance Services (3.9% compared to 6.4%)
