Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Macarthur Region in 2016/17 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction (4,818 people or 25.9%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (2,482 people or 13.4%)
  • Manufacturing (1,647 people or 8.9%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $8,946 million in total or 48.2% of the total local sales by total industry in the Macarthur Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Greater Sydney accounted for 15.3% in Construction; 22.8% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services; and 5.5% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries in the Macarthur Region and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (25.9% compared to 15.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (13.4% compared to 22.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (3.3% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (5.0% compared to 9.2%)

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2011/12 and 2016/17 in the Macarthur Region were for:

  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services (+$831 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$365 million)
  • Wholesale Trade (+$237 million)
