Total industries employs more of the MidCoast Council area's resident workforce than any other industry sector.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the MidCoast Council area in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (6,600 people or 19.4%)
  • Retail Trade (3,783 people or 11.1%)
  • Construction (3,477 people or 10.2%)

In combination these three industries employed 13,860 people in total or 40.7% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, New South Wales employed 14.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.0% in Retail Trade and 8.6% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the MidCoast Council area and New South Wales were:

  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (3.8% compared to 8.9%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Health Care and Social Assistance (19.4% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of resident workforce employed in Financial and Insurance Services (1.5% compared to 5.3%)
  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (4.9% compared to 2.0%)
