Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Northern Midlands in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (305 million or 32.3%)
  • Manufacturing (233 million or 24.6%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (228 million or 24.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 765 million in total or 81.0% of the total exports by industry in the Northern Midlands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 14.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 17.5% in Manufacturing and 10.5% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of Northern Midlands and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (32.3% compared to 14.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (24.1% compared to 10.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Health Care and Social Assistance (2.6% compared to 14.9%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Wholesale Trade (12.0% compared to 2.1%)

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in Northern Midlands were for:
