Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Northern Midlands in 2021/22 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($303 million or 25.2%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($151 million or 12.5%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($121 million or 10.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $575 million in total or 47.8% of the total imports by industry in the Northern Midlands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 29.1% in Manufacturing; 8.1% in Financial and Insurance Services and 8.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between total imports by industries of Northern Midlands and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (12.5% compared to 8.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (25.2% compared to 29.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (2.4% compared to 6.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (1.5% compared to 4.8%)
