Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the Ballina Shire in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,865 people or 18.6%)
  • Education and Training (2,210 people or 10.6%)
  • Retail Trade (2,187 people or 10.5%)

In combination these three industries employed 8,262 people in total or 39.8% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, NSW employed 14.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.7% in Education and Training and 9.0% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the Ballina Shire and NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Health Care and Social Assistance (18.6% compared to 14.4%)
