Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Northern Rivers Region in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($5,258million or 23.0%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,355million or 10.3%)
  • Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($1,754million or 7.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $9,366 million in total or 41.0% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Northern Rivers Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in NSW accounted for 21.4% in Construction; 6.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 9.1% in Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Northern Rivers Region and NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (10.3% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6.3% compared to 9.5%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (4.3% compared to 1.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Financial and Insurance Services (3.0% compared to 5.5%)
