In Flinders Council, there are less younger workers (15 to 44 years) than older workers (45 year and over) in the resident workers .

This includes factors such as when the area was settled; what types of households live there; the level of access the area has to employment, services and facilities; the local dwelling stock characteristics (including cost of housing); local amenity and a range of other factors that attract people to an area.
The age structure of Northern Tasmania Region's resident workers is indicative of the skill-levels and experience that local businesses can draw upon. For example, younger resident workers, while less experienced, are typically more mobile and have higher level skills in use of new technologies.

Analysis of the resident workers age structure of Flinders Council in 2016 compared to Tasmania shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (15 to 44 years) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (45 years and over).
Overall, 36.7% of the resident workers was aged under 45 years, compared to 53.4% for Tasmania. 63.3% were aged 45 years and over, compared to 46.6% for Tasmania.
The major differences between the resident workers age structure of Flinders Council and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of resident workers aged 65 years and over (14.0% compared to 4.7%)
- A larger percentage of resident workers aged 55 to 64 years (27.3% compared to 18.3%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workers aged 25 to 34 years (11.5% compared to 18.9%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workers aged 15 to 24 years (8.9% compared to 14.2%)
From 2011 to 2016, Flinders Council's resident workers population increased by 32 people (7.9%). This represents an average annual change of 1.54% per year over the period.
There were no major changes in age structure of the resident workers in Flinders Council between 2011 and 2016.
