An analysis of the jobs held by the local workers in the Northern Midlands Council area in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (807 people or 17.0%)
- Manufacturing (789 people or 16.6%)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (438 people or 9.2%)
In combination these three fields accounted for 2,034 people in total or 42.7% of the local workers.
In comparison, Tasmania employed 5.3% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 6.9% in Manufacturing and 4.2% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.
The major differences between the jobs held by local workers of the Northern Midlands Council area and Tasmania were:
